1. Schloss Englar in South Tyrol - Romance and Wine

Welcome to romantic Schloss Englar, nestled idyllically in the hills of South Tyrol, surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Here, you will find historic walls, a cozy atmosphere, and a special highlight: their own private winery. Schloss Englar, owned by the Counts Khuen-Belasi for almost 400 years, is the best-preserved Gothic castle in South Tyrol. The ensemble, featuring the Gothic chapel of St. Sebastian, the farm, and the duck pond, offers a harmonious blend of nature and culture.

A true treasure: the winery of Schloss Englar. The sun-drenched vineyards rise steeply, while the view from the terrace of the Schloss extends to the distant peaks of the Dolomites. The mild climate of the Southern Alps and the terroir of Überetsch lend their wines a distinctive character. At Schloss Englar, you can immerse yourself in the world of flavors and feel the passion for wine. The cellar masters refine the grapes into exquisite vintages, capturing the romantic atmosphere and very essence of the region. During a wine tasting, you will be able to experience the love for their craft and the beauty of this stately home.

Enjoy the romantic ambiance together, stroll through the vineyards, and let yourself be seduced by the castle wines. Schloss Englar is a true retreat for wine lovers and romantics who appreciate the beauty of nature coupled with traditional craftsmanship.

Schloss Kapfenstein and Weingut Winkler-Hermaden

Nestled in the picturesque Vulkanland Region of Styria, enchanting Schloss Kapfenstein Kapfenstein rises upon a hill, offering breathtaking views. With its unique charm and romantic atmosphere, it invites couples to enjoy an utterly unforgettable stay.

Schloss Kapfenstein houses sixteen individual guest rooms, lovingly furnished with antique furniture and modern comforts. Each room is named after previous owners or provides hints about its history, such as the Prince's Room, the Poet's Room, or the "Von Lengheim" and "Von Weißeneck" rooms. Each is unique in its size, architecture, and decor, exuding a special atmosphere. Whether with cozy nooks or picturesque bay windows, residing at Schloss Kapfenstein is a delightful experience in every season and in every room, one intertwined with history and romance.

Magnificent Wine Organically Cultivated

Weingut Winkler-Hermaden at Schloss Kapfenstein, located in the picturesque Vulkanland Region of Styria, is a true gem of organic and biodynamic wine production. For generations, the passionate Winkler-Hermaden family has meticulously cultivated the idyllic vineyards with loving care. Here, 21 exquisite grape varieties grow and thrive, including an elegant Blauer Zweigelt, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, and seductive Gewürztraminer. Their dedication to winemaking is reflected in exquisite wines that are internationally acclaimed. Yet, the Winkler-Hermaden winery is more than just a place where wine is produced. It is one of harmony, connection to nature, and familial hospitality. Through organic and biodynamic farming practices since 2009, biodiversity is promoted, and the wine quality is optimized naturally. Here, craftsmanship is united with respect for the environment and the romantic atmosphere of historic Schloss Kapfenstein.

Burg Bernstein - Protected behind Historic Walls

Amongst our Schlosshotels, the epitome of an idyllic retreat is undoubtedly Burg Bernstein. Nestled in the hills of Burgenland, the castle gate opens up into a world that grants immediate peace and tranquility. “Lord of the castle” Erasmus Almásy welcomes guests personally and invites them to engage in a truly unique experience. The dining hall is lit solely by candlelight, the rooms adorned with antiques. The hosts combine modern luxury with the flair of bygone eras. You won't find televisions or the like in this castle, which is quite intentional. Instead, you will discover copious serenity, space, and a fantastic view.

Adventure Enthusiasts
The Almásy family has always been a family of adventurers and explorers. And for six generations, they have also been hosts at Burg Bernstein. Only those who themselves love to travel know what a guest truly needs. They cook the same meals that their own family gets joy from. That's why you won't find a traditional à la carte restaurant here, but rather a set menu with a main course and dessert. In the morning, there is no buffet, but rather a breakfast served at the table in the Renaissance Hall or in the castle courtyard.

A Special Tip: "In the Footsteps of the English Patient"
Perhaps the most famous resident of this castle was László E. Almásy, whose adventures served as inspiration for the novel and film "The English Patient," winning 9 Oscars in 1997, including "Best Picture." To learn more details about Burg Bernstein and the true story of László Almásy, join one of the guided tours offered daily from April 29th to October 2nd, except Wednesdays and Thursdays, at 11:00 am.
